'How the World Sees the World'

It doesn't sound like something that would be interesting, but you can download the 'Anholt National Brands Index' that just came out (you have to register), and it is a very interesting read.  I'll let them explain exactly what this index is.

"The Anholt Nation Brands Index is the first analytical ranking of the world’s nation brands. Each quarter, we survey our worldwide panel of consumers on their perceptions of the cultural, political, commercial and human assets, investment potential and tourist appeal of 35 developed and developing countries.

This adds up to a clear quantitative index of national brand power, a unique barometer of global public opinion."

The Line From the Book That Jumps Out at You

"-God and religion before everything! Dante cried.  God and religion before the world!"

The Search for Aggregations of the Good Stuff

I came across a great blog the other day out of Winnipeg, my favorite prairie town, called 'Stung Eye'.  The site is littered with interesting links.  Rather than steal them, I'll just send you there.

Okay, well I'll steal a couple.

(This one's really interesting, but I'm going to have to read it a few times.)

Reading of The God Delusion in Lynchburg, VA

"Richard Dawkins reads excerpts from The God Delusion and anwsers questions at Randolph-Macon Woman's College in Lynchburg, Virginia on October 23, 2006. This Q&A features many questions from Jerry Falwell's Liberty "University" students. In Richard's tour journal he says:"

"Many of the questioners announced themselves as either students or faculty from Liberty, rather than from Randolph Macon which was my host institution. One by one they tried to trip me up, and one by one their failure to do so was applauded by the audience. Finally, I said that my advice to all Liberty students was to resign immediately and apply to a proper university instead. That received thunderous applause, so that I almost began to feel slightly sorry for the Liberty people. Only almost and only slightly, however."

Pitch Perception

This site contains an interesting flash test to determine how good you are at hearing pitch.

And this (speedbandits) was at the top of the story list at reddit.  (This is purported to be a Danish PR stunt involving semi-nude women, just to warn you.)

One Love

Microsoft doesn't even support embedded video from Soapbox, its own video upstart site.  I have to wonder if they're ever going to get around to adding it.

I've spent the last three days with help at work from a 65 year fellow originally from Jamaica.  He loved to talk about his homeland, and I enjoyed the conversations.  So, in honour of Jamaica, and in spite of Microsoft, here's a link to one of the best songs ever written.

Published in Poor Taste

I had lazily prepared a post with the lyrics from a song by a Scottish punk band called 'The Exploited', entitled 'Fuck the USA', anticipating a poor performance from the Democrats, but it seems America came through.  So I'll lazily post the lyrics from another song instead.

I BEEN PREACHIFYING MORALIZING EVERY DAY
TRYING TO GET ALL LOST SOULS TO COME MY WAY
CAUSE I KNOW WHAT YOU SINNERS LACK
AND I KNOW WHAT YOU NEED
A BACK RUB FROM A MUSCLE MAN AND GODSPEED

(CHORUS)

GIVE ME METH AND MAN ASS ON A SUNDAY MORNING
METH AND MAN ASS SURE AS I AM BORN AGAIN
METH AND MAN ASS I DON'T NEED NOTHING MORE
JUST METH AND MAN ASS AND WE'LL PRAISE THE LORD
